The use of microorganism for the benefit of mankind dated back to the Neolithic period (around 10,000 years BC). However, the scientific rationale behind their uses first came to attention in 1665 when a Dutch scientist Anton Van Leeuwenhoek identified microorganisms through the intervention of microscope. Today, microorganisms are utilized in almost every field such as agricultural and aquacultural, food and nutrition, medical and pharmaceutical and also in up-scaled industrial applications. Although various strains of microbes have been identified as beneficial, however much have yet to be discovered, exploited and understood. Initiatives from various research fields are needed to synergistically unfold the great potentials of these microbes.
Our past event, the International Conference on Beneficial Microbes (ICOBM-2014) that was held in Penang, Malaysia (27-29 May 2014), was a success with over 220 participants. This event will be continued, and we anticipate that ICOBM-2 will attract over 300 participants.
Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia is proud to collaborate with King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand in organizing ICOBM-2 with the aim to bring together and provide a platform for interaction and exchanging research ideas among experts from various fields of beneficial microorganisms. The conference will be held in Phuket, Thailand from 31 May – 2 June 2016 and will be attended by repute scientists, researchers, academicians, industrial professionals and postgraduate students globally.
Full papers/manuscripts (that fit into the BENEFICIAL MICROBES' scopes and presented at ICOBM 2016) will be considered for publication in BENEFICIAL MICROBES (Impact factor of 2.614; 2014 journal citation report, THOMSON REUTERS 2015).
Any participants who are interested kindly email your full paper/manuscript to
IF the secretariat received sufficient number of full papers/manuscripts, we will have an ICOBM special issue at BENEFICIAL MICROBES, else the full papers/manuscripts will be included in the normal issues of the journal.
